Autism Rates Highest Among Babies Conceived in Winter

A study of 800,000 Scottish children shows that children conceived in winter are more likely to have autism and developmental conditions than those conceived in summer, according to the Spectrum. Lack of sunlight and exposure to the flu are possible contributing causes to the anomaly, researchers said.

While scientists are still trying to figure out the significance of this — earlier research suggested just the opposite, that babies conceived in summer had more autism — the fact still remains that autism spectrum disorder (ASD) affects an estimated 1 in 50 American children. Developmental delays affect 1 out of 6 or 7, and numerous things beyond the season point to the cause.

Environmental exposures are a significant factor that can contribute to the development of ASD and other developmental delays. From lead in children’s drinking water across the country to glyphosate-laden genetically engineered (GE) crops like corn, soy and sugar, we are constantly exposed to environmental poisons that ultimately affect the human brain.

In fact, one of the strategies many families with autistic children end up trying is choosing whole, organic foods, ditching processed foods and going gluten-free, casein-free (GFCF. That’s because these parents are aware of the link between gut dysfunction and autism.

One of the diets that parents and researchers are trying is called the GAPS diet, a protocol designed to restore the integrity of your gut and restoring balance to your gut flora, this Gut and Psychology Syndrome Nutritional Program is one I talk about often in my articles.
