We Now Have Scientific Evidence for Why You Should Never Go to Bed Angry

If you’re looking for a scientific reason to dispel all your anger before your head hits your pillow, Science Alert reports that a new sleep study shows that if we fall asleep with negative thoughts, they can be harder to forget in the long run — which means you need to settle those issues before hitting the sack.

Sleep issues probably rival any physical ailment people have, when it comes to complaining about their health. It goes without saying that insomnia or simply a bad night’s sleep not only can wreck your day, but literally can leave you functionally “drunk.”

In the 21st century, there are many reasons why you may have trouble nodding off, but for many it comes down to a hectic schedule, exposure to too much light at night and not enough exposure to sunlight during the day.

Too much exposure to electronic devices also can cause sleep issues. If you need a better night’s rest, sleep in complete darkness; keep the temperature in your bedroom no higher than 70 degrees F; establish a regular bedtime, which helps your body recognize that it’s time to sleep; avoid bedtime snacks, particularly grains and sugars (or eat a high-protein snack several hours before bed); and settle in by doing relaxing activities such as meditation.

And, of course, switch off all electronics at least two hours before you go to bed. Try to keep electro-magnetic fields (EMFs) away from your bedroom, too, as they can disrupt the pineal gland and the production of melatonin and serotonin, which you need for healthful sleep.
