The Health Advantages of Marriage

If you need a healthy reason to get married, Harvard Health Publications reports that there are at least six health-boosting points that show married people enjoy better health. Those include: living longer, having fewer strokes and heart attacks, having a lower chance of becoming depressed, being less likely to have advanced cancer at the time of diagnosis along with the likelihood of surviving longer, and surviving a major operation more often.

If marriage isn’t in your future, then know that, while kissing wasn’t mentioned by Harvard, we do know that besides feeling good, it’s actually very good for you. Studies have shown that people who kissed more often reported significant decreases in their levels of stress and greater relationship satisfaction. Kissing also has been shown to boost your immune system and reduce allergic responses in people with skin or nasal allergies.

Marriage and kissing aside, what people in relationships are generally looking for is a form of happiness — and that’s something that’s been studied too. It’s a fact that focusing on increasing your own positive experiences can extend to making you and, ultimately, your partner happy.

You can do this by savoring the little things and following certain habits that happy people seem to have in common, such as not sweating the small stuff and letting go of grudges, expressing gratitude, treating others with kindness and regarding your problems as challenges, rather than something to sit around and grieve and worry about.

Happy people also tend to dream big and speak well of others, as well as surround themselves with positive people — which can go a long way toward changing your own attitude and health.
