Why Are So Many Americans Dying Young?

Atlantic Magazine investigated why Americans are dying young. Their findings were both alarming and sadly predictable. Americans are less healthy than the residents of other wealthy countries, and actually have a declining life expectancy.

It will be impossible to address this drop in lifespan until these serious issues are confronted. The skyrocketing rates of obesity, sedentary lifestyles, the opiate addiction scourge, increased toxic burden, processed foods and widespread adoption of dangerous GMO crops has made this grim news inevitable.

What makes this so tragic is that the root causes of the problem are understood. There are actionable solutions that can reverse this trend. A diet consisting exclusively of nourishing whole foods, a well-designed fitness program and rejuvenating sleep are three solutions available to anyone.

Americans are not active enough. High intensity interval training (HIIT) is not only an amazingly effective approach to working out, but also takes less time than more conventional exercise programs. One of the benefits of exercise is improved sleep quality, but it's typically recommended that you not exercise within three hours of bedtime so that you have adequate time to wind down.

Removing all processed foods may appear to be a daunting task but this is the best way to remove both sugar and toxic ingredients from your diet. The convenience and perceived value of processed food is entirely illusory. It may take some planning, but preparing your own meals is a lifestyle change that can reap massive dividends.

One of the least expensive and simplest ways to protect your body’s internal rhythm, and support healthy sleep is to wear blue-light-blocking glasses at night. I also recommend sleeping in total darkness and to remove any EMF generating devices from the vicinity of your bed.
