The Mysterious Virus That Could Cause Obesity

Is it possible that a virus could make you fat? New research shows that a certain type of virus that normally only infects chickens could be infecting some people, and causing them to gain weight, Wired reports.

So far, scientists have determined that this mysterious virus can increase the uptake of glucose in your body and convert it to fat. While we wait for further studies, a key word here is glucose. And, unless you’re one of the tiny percentage who might have the weight-gain virus, a key solution to fighting obesity is as simple as ditching glucose and embracing healthy fats — including saturated fats — in your diet.

Indeed, far from posing a risk, it's known that saturated fats provide a number of important health benefits. A high-fat diet may even be the answer to starving cancer out of your body. The foundational aspect of this is the metabolic mitochondrial defect, which involves radically reducing the non-fiber carbohydrates in your diet and increasing high quality fats.

Normal, healthy cells have the metabolic flexibility to adapt from using glucose to using ketone bodies. Cancer cells lack this ability so when you reduce net carbs (total carbs minus fiber), you effectively starve the cancer. The key here is HEALTHY fats as the vast majority of fats people eat are unhealthy. Avoid all processed and bottled oil with the exception of third party certified olive oils, as 80 percent are adulterated with vegetable oils.

Limit polyunsaturated fat (PUFA) to less than 10 percent, and do not exceed 5 percent of your calories as omega-6 fats.
