Obese and Inactive Children See Signs of Heart Disease By Age Six

Inactive children show signs of heart disease before they reach age 10. This discovery was made by Finnish researchers. The results of their study were released by PR Newswire and are a stern rebuke to those who do not take the childhood obesity epidemic seriously. It is hard to believe that the modern diet has devolved to the point where children are suffering cardiovascular difficulties before hitting puberty. In fact, the damage can start before birth.

One of the most dangerous culprits is phthalates. They are the chemicals that make plastics more flexible. Products such as your shower curtain, food packaging, vinyl gloves and vinyl flooring contain phthalates.

Researchers now demonstrate an increased potential for ingestion of phthalates when you eat at fast food restaurants, including pizza and sandwich shops. The dangers associated with phthalates are related to their effect on your hormonal system.

Recent research demonstrated they're a gender- bending chemical capable of causing males in all species to develop feminine characteristics. Additional studies tied phthalate exposure during pregnancy to genital malformations.

That the health of children is being undermined so early in life is a tragedy. The triple threat of environmental toxins, unhealthy diet and sedentary lifestyle is largely responsible. The first step to solving the problem is to completely overhaul the standard American diet. Consume no processed foods at any time. Instead, your diet should consist exclusively of nourishing and high-quality whole foods.

Recent studies show that children may benefit from very short periods of high intensity physical exercise and high-intensity interval training (HIIT). Motivating them may prove a challenge, but the long-term benefits are profound. It is never too early — or too late — to take control of your health.
