How Often Should You Have Sex With Your Partner?

It’s a common question that most likely everyone’s asked themselves at one point or another: How much sex is the “right amount” for a couple? As reported by USA Today, the answer to that depends on each person’s needs in a relationship, although a 2015 study found that couples who have sex once a week are the happiest.

It's often suggested — in media, movies and the like — that the more sex you have the happier you'll be. But in reality, “more” is not always what’s most satisfying. Research shows that while having sex more often — four times a week or more — isn't a bad thing, it doesn’t necessarily lead to additional happiness compared to having sex once a week.

With that out of the way, it’s reasonable to say if you’re happy with your sex life, there’s no need to change it — which brings on all the good reasons to have sex. Beyond the emotional benefits of intimacy and bonding, sex is a great stress reliever that is good for your heart and blood pressure. It also improves your immunity: Studies show that people who have sex frequently have significantly higher levels of immunoglobulin A (IgA), your body’s first line of defense.

Sex is also a good form of exercise that can help relieve pain by inducing pain-reducing hormones, as well as help you sleep. But lest you think it’s all about sex, know that simply hugging is good for you too.
