Lower Your Heart Disease Risk

One of the great nutritional myths of the last century has finally been debunked. The war on healthy fats is drawing to a close. Overwhelming evidence supporting the beneficial role of fats continues to pour in. At the same time, the case against sugar is now overwhelming and carbs are now correctly viewed as the driving force behind the obesity and diabetes scourges that plague the U.S.

A report in the Journal Times provided another link in the chain of evidence against the standard American diet. They reported on a study that demonstrated that eating a healthy diet, remaining active and reducing stress can reduce your odds of dying from heart disease.

The case for a comprehensive approach to nutrition is staring us in the face. In the decades following the release of fat-phobic dietary guidelines, Americans reduced their intake of animal fats and replaced them with grains, sugars and industrially processed vegetable oils. Adherence to these supposedly "healthy" guidelines resulted in a calamitous decline in U.S. public health.

HIIT is one of my favorite workout programs because I believe it can boost both your fitness and your mindset when it comes to expanding your exercise program. The good news is these workouts are considerably shorter than you're probably used to and involve as little as four minutes of intense activity combined with rest for a total workout of only around 20 minutes.

Aside from exercise and diet, some common stress-reduction tools include prayer and meditation. Another way to address stress is the Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT). EFT is a form of psychological acupressure, based on the same energy meridians used in traditional acupuncture to treat physical and emotional ailments for over 5,000 years, but without the invasiveness of needles. EFT is an empowering multipurpose tool that can help cope with stress and positively impact your health.
