‘LED Street Lights Are Disturbing My Sleep’

As municipalities around the world switch to energy-saving LED street lighting, residents living near the lights are complaining that the lights disturb their sleep, BBC.com reports. One woman described the light as a “blue ray” shining in her face — yet, many cities are refusing to back down on using the lights, even though the American Medical Association says they adversely affect sleep rhythms.

It’s well-established that there are major downsides to LEDs. LED lighting may actually be one of the most important, non-native EMF radiation exposures you're exposed to on a daily basis.

It’s also known that LEDs sabotage health and promote blindness — and if you choose to ignore these new insights, it can have very serious long-term ramifications. For example, it could lead to age-related macular degeneration (AMD), which is the leading cause of blindness in the United States and elsewhere.

This is why it’s important to limit your exposure to blue light during the daytime and at night. Swap out LEDs for incandescents or low-voltage incandescent halogen lights so you can get exposure to infrared lighting, rather than LED.

If you’re thinking of buying an LED light, one way to get a healthier light is to look at the CRI. Sunlight is the gold standard and has a CRI of 100, as do incandescent light bulbs and candles. What you're looking for is a light that has an R9 (full red spectrum) CRI of about 97, which is the closest you'll ever get to a natural light with an LED.
