Woman's Skin Burned From Inside Out After Dosage Error, Lawsuit Claims

Medical errors are so common that they rarely make the news. To get the media’s attention it takes a case so alarming and egregious that it is impossible to ignore. Fox News reported on just such a tragic incident.

A Georgia woman was burned from the inside out after receiving an incorrect dosage of the anti-seizure medication Lamictal. She was depressed at the time and this drug is used to address bipolar disorders. After only two weeks on the medication, she broke out in blisters and was overcome by a burning sensation. Technically the diagnosis was Stevens Johnson Syndrome, although this is mere semantics. She is suing and considers herself the victim of a major medical error.

Three years have elapsed and she resembles a burn victim. It is hard to classify her as “lucky,” but medical errors are the third leading cause of death in the U.S. This is just another example of the sort of mistakes that kill 225,000 patients each year. The negative side effects of drugs account for nearly half of this number.

All in all, leading a common-sense, healthy lifestyle is your best bet to achieve good health, and avoid dying from preventable causes. There are a few simple healthy lifestyle guidelines that can go a very long way toward keeping you from becoming another “death by medicine” statistic. The first step is to avoid processed foods. Instead, consume only nourishing whole foods that have been sustainably sourced. My nutrition plan is an excellent resource for making this transition.

Adopting an effective exercise program, I am a proponent of high-intensity interval training, and avoiding periods of prolonged inactivity is also a necessity. A final consideration is your emotional health. The Emotional Freedom Technique is a form of psychological acupressure, based on the same energy meridians used in traditional acupuncture to treat physical and emotional ailments for over 5,000 years, but without the invasiveness of needles. EFT is an empowering multipurpose tool that can help cope with stress and positively impact your health.
