Mercury Awareness Week SPECIAL EXTENSION

LAST DAY: I’m offering a special extension to help bring Charlie Brown and Consumers for Dental Choice to the finish line! I’ll continue to match every dollar, up to $100,000, now through August 30th to Consumers for Dental Choice! You can help stop dental mercury by donating.

This week I’m concentrating on a topic that is so near and dear to my heart that I not only am talking about it a lot, but I am asking you to join with me in supporting it. Mercury — the main component of dental amalgam —should NOT be in your mouth, yet many dentists and insurance companies still make it the first choice for dental fillings. That’s why this week, August 20 through August 27 (NOW EXTENDED TO AUGUST 30), I am urging you to donate to Consumers for Dental Choice, which is leading the charge to get mercury out of dentistry. When you donate, I will match every dollar, dollar for dollar, up to $100,000.

Consumers for Dental Choice created and led a world alliance, the Minamata Convention, which imposed a duty on every nation to scale down amalgam use and provided a road map on how to do it. As a result of this convention, beginning July 1, 2018 in Europe, amalgam use in pregnant women, breast-feeding mothers and children under age 15 will be banned.

But in the U.S., big policy changes don’t happen overnight. The sad fact is the U.S. is one of the only developed countries in the world to refuse to even warn parents about the risks amalgam poses to their children — and that’s why we need your help to stop the use of dental amalgam in the U.S.

Dental amalgam is the largest use of mercury in America today, and amalgam’s mercury goes into the air we breathe, the ground soil that grows our vegetables, the lakes we fish from, and the community water supply we drink from. Children, the unborn and the hypersensitive are especially vulnerable to the toxic effects of mercury, yet insurance companies, third-party payers and many dentists ignore mercury’s neurotoxic dangers and insist on using it.

Over the years, many dental consumers have been surprised to learn that their dental insurance would not pay for mercury-free fillings, but the truth is leaking out: Mercury is dangerous. It does NOT belong in your mouth. And you DO have a voice. Please, join me now in supporting that voice, Consumers for Dental Choice. And remember, when you give, I will match every dollar, up to $100,000, through August 27 (NOW EXTENDED TO AUGUST 30) so Americans can have safe dentistry too.
