Boy Who Suffered Up to 100 Seizures a Day Has None in 300 Days After Cannabis Oil

Medical marijuana has turned into a medical miracle for an 11-year-old boy who was dying from severe epilepsy, but is now well. As reported by The Independent, the child was the first person in the U.K. to receive a cannabis oil prescription, after first getting it in the U.S., where it’s legal in some states. The oil, commonly known as CBD (short for cannabidiol), contains no synthetics or chemicals. The child, who once had up to 100 seizures a day, has been seizure-free for 300 days straight. His mother says his autism has improved too.

Time and again, medical marijuana is proving itself as beneficial for numerous health problems. Even in clinical trials, mice have shown to improve in brain function and memory when given this amazing, natural treatment. This is because the cannabinoids in cannabis — CBD and tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) — interact with your body by way of naturally-occurring cannabinoid receptors embedded in cell membranes throughout your body.

Probably some of the most well-known uses of CBD are for pain and nausea. And considering the high risk of lethal consequences of opioid painkillers and sleeping pills, medical marijuana is a godsend when it comes to a pain reliever. Quite frankly, it’s a vastly underutilized medical treatment that has been hindered by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency, which insists on classifying it as a Schedule 1 controlled substance despite its having no psychoactive component, meaning it cannot render you “high” and therefore has little potential for abuse.

There’s no question that CBD is safe. People who use it know it works — 300 days without a seizure speaks for itself. It's just really unfortunate that we've been so successfully indoctrinated to view marijuana as a dangerous gateway drug that will lead to illicit drug use.
