Cancer Hijacks the Microbiome to Glut Itself on Glucose

You may have heard that sugar feeds cancer. But, now, new research shows that cancer loves sugar so much that it will actually hijack your microbiome to glut itself on the glucose in your body. As reported by ScienceDaily, a study on leukemia showed that the cancer undercuts the ability of normal cells to consume glucose, leaving more of it to feed its own growth. “Literally, [the cancer cells] are stealing glucose from normal cells to drive growth of the tumor,” Craig Jordan, Ph.D., investigator at University of Colorado Cancer Center, said.

The metabolic theory of cancer is not new. What is new is that, finally, it looks like mainstream medicine is catching on to the fact that the key to cancer prevention and recovery is dependent on reducing sugar in your diet — preferably through nutritional ketosis. This is because, contrary to conventional teaching, nuclear genetic defects do not cause cancer. Rather, mitochondrial damage happens first, which then triggers nuclear genetic mutations.

The truth is mitochondrial dysfunction is at the core of virtually all diseases, and one of the reasons nutritional ketosis works so well is because it boosts mitochondrial function and effectively drives down inflammation. Since 50 percent of men and 41 percent of women are expected to develop cancer in their lifetimes, it would seem that now is a time to learn about the ketogenic diet.
