Could a Fracking Site Near You Give You a Heart Attack?

A new study is pointing fingers at oil and gas operations, including fracking, horizontal drill and mlicro-seismic imaging as stressors that may be associated with increases of cardiovascular diseases and deaths in people who live near these operations. As reported by Times Now News, previous studies have already shown that short- and long-term exposure to the kind of particulate matter from oil and gas operations make you more vulnerable.

It’s been a while since I wrote about fracking, but I still stand by my belief that this oil and gas “boom” will ultimately destroy the environment and decimate our health. Fracking proponents claim it is a safe and effective drilling method that reduces the surface footprint of the drilling operation, but court records more than five years ago showed that fracking activities in Pennsylvania were leaking acetone into fresh water supplies. Acrylonitrile, a highly flammable and possible carcinogen, was also found in the water.

Reported adverse effects of exposure to fracking chemicals include:

  • Respiratory ailments; shortness of breath
  • Chemical sensitivities
  • Skin rashes; swelling; lesions
  • Severe headaches
  • Nausea and vomiting

And now, the latest news is connecting these oil and gas operations in New York to cardiovascular disease, including higher blood pressure, changes in the stiffness of blood vessels, and markers of inflammation.

But even though this is in the news, I predict that industry supporters and shills like the American Council of Science and Health (ACSH) will be quick to flood the media with arguments countering the researchers’ findings. The ACSH, by the way, claims to be an independent research and advocacy organization of “concerned” scientists bent on debunking what they call “junk” science.

But the things they defend make them nothing but front group for fracking, pesticides, toxic chemicals genetically-engineered foods, vaccines and more. In other words, if it comes from the ACSH, beware.

In the meantime, you can do things to protect yourself and your heart from industry’s killing ways. Heart disease is one of the most common chronic health problems in the United States, and we're wasting tens of billions of dollars on ineffective treatments and surgical procedures, so if you understand how to prevent and treat heart disease, you’re one step ahead.

One highly effective and noninvasive treatment option that will help improve microcirculation to your heart — which, again, is a common factor responsible for heart attacks — is enhanced external counterpulsation (EECP). It's a Medicare insurance-approved therapy, and studies show EECP alone can relieve about 80 percent of angina.

Other steps include:

• Eating a whole food-based diet low in net carbs and high in healthy fats, and add in beet juice (or fermented beet powder) to help normalize your blood pressure.

• Getting plenty of nonexercise movement each day; walk more and incorporate higher intensity exercise as your health allows

• Intermittently fasting. Once you've progressed to the point of fasting for 20 hours each day for a month, consider doing a four- or five-day water fast several times a year.

• Implementing heart-based wellness practices such as connecting with loved ones and practicing gratitude.
