Breakfast food recall — Is this in your freezer?

If you live a busy, fast-paced lifestyle like many do, there’s a chance your go-to breakfast is something quick and handy — like a frozen breakfast wrap. If that’s the case, you’ll want to check your freezer. More than 246,000 pounds of frozen breakfast wraps sold nationwide are being recalled for possible contamination.

Texas-based company Ruiz Foods Products is recalling El Monterey frozen breakfast wraps that contain egg, potato, bacon, cheese — and possibly extraneous materials, like small rocks. The U.S. Department of Agriculture said in a statement,” The company received a report of potential injury associated with the consumption of this product.”

The recalled products were produced on January 17, 2019, and January 18, 2019. The package contains the label “EL MONTEREY EGG, POTATO, BACON & CHEESE SAUCE BREAKFAST WRAPS” with “Best if Used By” dates of 01/17/2020 and 01/18/2020. Lot codes on the recalled products are 19017 and 19018. On the back of the package, the recalled products contain an establishment label of “EST. 17523A.”

While the company is based in Texas, the breakfast wraps were shipped to retail locations nationwide. If the recalled wraps are in your freezer, discard them or return them to the place of purchase.

As yet another recall is announced on packaged and processed foods, it may help serve as a reminder to shop for fresh, organic produce and fill your diet with healthy, unprocessed foods. If your go-to breakfast is frozen wrap hot out of the microwave because it’s quick and easy, consider making your breakfast the night before or setting your alarm just a tad earlier to make time for a healthy breakfast.
