Enjoy instant noodles? You might not after reading this

If you think about your favorite foods when you were a kid, you might realize your diet has changed a lot over the years, along with your taste buds. But one food often considered a staple that children, teens and even many adults have in common: instant noodles.


Whether you eat them because you’re on a budget, in a hurry or because you simply like the taste, instant noodles are a popular food among people of all ages. But if you’re still frequenting this meal, it’s probably because you don’t really understand what you’re eating or what it’s doing to your body. Here are three pretty convincing reasons why you should stop eating instant noodles:

  1. They’re difficult to digest

    Researchers used a pill-sized camera to see what happens inside your stomach and digestive tract after you eat instant noodles. They found that after two hours, the instant noodles were remarkably intact. This can lead to several serious problems. By forcing your stomach to work for hours to break down this highly processed food, you could be straining your digestive system. While the food remains in your stomach for an extended period of time, nutrient absorption is also impacted.

  2. They contain dangerous ingredients

    Instant noodles offer little-to-no nutritious value, but the additives in the noodles will remain in your stomach for an extended period of time. Ramen noodles specifically, contain the toxic preservative tertiary-butyl hydroquinone (TBHQ), which has been linked to nausea and vomiting, delirium, sense of suffocation, collapse, liver problems and reproductive effects. Many instant noodles also contain monosodium glutamate (MSG). MSG is an excitotoxin, which means it overexcites your nerve cells to the point of damage or death, causing brain dysfunction to varying degrees, and potentially even triggering or worsening learning disabilities, Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, Lou Gehrig’s disease and more.

  3. They’re linked to metabolic syndrome

According to a study published in the Journal of Nutrition, women who consumed more instant noodles had a significantly greater risk of metabolic syndrome than those who ate less, regardless of their overall diet or exercise habits. Women who ate instant noodles more than twice a week were 68% more likely to have metabolic syndrome, including central obesity, elevated blood pressure, elevated fasting blood sugar, elevated fasting triglycerides and low levels of HDL cholesterol.

Instant noodles may be convenient and even tasty, but there’s no doubt they’re wrecking your health.
