Metal toxicity — are you at risk?

Heavy metals are found naturally in the Earth’s crust and may end up in the environment, our water supply, food, medicine and the herbal supplements we take, especially those made overseas, according to MSN Lifestyle News.

Most people who suffer high levels of exposure work in factories or mines where heavy metals are prevalent, the report said. Other sources of toxic metal exposure include certain fish and shellfish, tobacco smoke, aluminum cookware, air pollution and water.

The most common toxic metals are lead, tin, cadmium, arsenic, aluminum, mercury, thallium and chromium. Methylmercury, a neurotoxic compound, is found primarily in dental fillings and seafood, which is why pregnant women are advised to abstain from fish and avoid so-called “silver fillings.”

Symptoms of toxic buildup due to chronic metal exposure include:

  • Fatigue
  • Digestive distress, and reduced ability to properly assimilate and utilize fats
  • Aching joints
  • Depression
  • Impaired blood sugar regulation
  • Female reproductive problems such as menstrual difficulties, infertility, miscarriage, pre-eclampsia, pregnancy-induced hypertension and premature birth

Mercury is also a potent toxin in its own right that can damage your brain, central nervous system and kidneys, and is especially dangerous for children, fetuses, pregnant and nursing women.

Fortunately, there are ways to protect and detoxify if you’ve been affected by heavy metal contamination.

Chlorella, a single-celled fresh water algae, is a potent detox agent for mercury and other heavy metals. Chlorella is known for its ability to detox your body by binding to toxins such as mercury, and carrying them out of your system. Chlorella has many other benefits, especially for vegetarians and vegans who want proteins and B vitamins from a non-animal source. Chlorella is about 60 percent protein and is considered to be a “complete protein” source because it contains all the essential amino acids your body needs.

Minerals such as magnesium, zinc, selenium, potassium and iodine are also important detoxification aids.

Another detox method involves using a full spectrum low EMF infrared sauna together with sodium r-lipoic acid.

When detoxing, be sure to take into consideration your exposure to non-native electromagnetic fields and microwave radiation from cellphones and Wi-Fi routers. When you have heavy metal toxicity, you tend to attract EMFs to your body and those EMFs will detract from your body’s ability to effectively eliminate toxins and heavy metals.

Saunas are an excellent detoxification tool, especially the near-infrared saunas. Delivering near-infrared light to the compromised mitochondria synthesizes gene transcription factors that trigger cellular repair.

Look for a full-spectrum, low EMF sauna, or modify your far-infrared sauna by adding a near-infrared light in the 830 to 850 nm range to it.
