More than 97,000 pounds of salad products shipped to distribution locations in 22 states are being recalled for possible E. coli contamination. The salads were produced by New York-based company Missa Bay from October 14th to October 16th and contain meat or poultry ingredients. The Maryland Department of Health discovered that the lettuce tested positive for E. coli O157:H7 after testing an unopened package of Ready Pac Bistro Chicken Raised Without Antibiotics Caesar Salad, prompting the recall.
The products may still be in distribution centers, restaurants and institutional refrigerators and freezers. The salads were distributed to locations in Alabama, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Virginia and Wisconsin. They were sold in numerous locations, including Walmart, Giant Eagle and Domino’s.
The recalled products are labeled with an establishment number of EST. 18502B inside the USDA mark of inspection. Symptoms of E. coli include nausea, vomiting, stomach cramps/abdominal pain, diarrhea, fever and loss of appetite. If you’ve recently purchased salad products in any of the above states, be sure to check the products for recall. If you purchased a recalled product, discard it or return it to the place of purchase. You can find a full list of the recalled products here.
