Tens of thousands of U.S. citizens, desperate for help in the wake of the coronavirus shutdown, are calling the National Disaster Distress Helpline — an 891% jump over the same time period in 2019.
Mental health officials say the hundreds of millions of dollars already earmarked for mental health crisis counseling during the shutdown isn’t going to be enough, as more and more Americans find themselves in “dire straits” over the coming weeks.
