Sloppy. Ineffective. Contaminated. The laboratory of America’s highest medical authority — the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention — was a despicable mess that caused coronavirus-contaminated test kits to be sent out to 100 state and local public health labs.
After the contamination was found, FDA investigators found the CDC violated its own manufacturing standards by failing to follow sterile-setting guidelines, ranging from individuals’ failure to change lab coats upon entering and exiting the coronavirus labs to the kits being assembled in the same room where live-virus research was going on.
