The chairman of Tyson’s board, John Tyson, wrote in a full-page ad in The New York Times that chickens, pigs and cattle are being “depopulized,” aka euthanized, because farmers have nowhere to sell their livestock.
Tyson has been closing pork plants as the pandemic has caused illnesses in the plants, and employee complaints came in about the company not doing enough to protect them from the virus. Smithfield Foods has also closed processing plants.
