March 30, 2020, the World Health Organization announced that you don’t need to wear a face mask unless you are sick or in close contact with someone infected with COVID-19. A day later U.S. Vice-President Mike Pence reiterated the advice, saying, “The average American does not need to go out and buy a mask.”
U.S. Surgeon General Jerome Adams added to it, and said masks are not effective for the general public, and even tweeted, “Seriously people — STOP BUYING MASKS!” Yet, the CDC issued rules that fly in the face of both WHO and Adams, and recommended that everyone use a simple cloth face mask. So, which is it? Do face masks save you from infection — or not?
