COVID-19 is killing more than people: Across the U.S., doctors’ offices are laying off employees and trying to figure how to stay alive in the wake of the coronavirus national shutdown.
The New York Times estimates that as many as 60,000 physicians may close their practices by June. Besides regular care such as routine mammograms and health checkups, patients are also putting off or canceling elective surgeries such as hip replacements. Yet, none of the bailout money from Congress has been allocated for doctors.
