Vaccine maker Pfizer and German pharmaceutical BioNTech will have a COVID-19 vaccine ready to go “in the millions” by the end of 2020, according to a press release.
The two companies are already in Phase 1 and Phase 2 clinical trials — with a grand total of 12 volunteers. The companies said they will enter a 200-subject trial soon, of people ages 18 to 55. When asked about the lightning speed at which the vaccines are being developed, National Vaccine Information Center co-founder and president Barbara Loe Fisher said, "Our organization is very concerned about fast-tracking the vaccine without proper study. We are worried that corners will be cut and the proper human and animal tests won’t be carried out."
