Carmel, Indiana, will use wastewater testing to determine whether SARS-CoV-2 infections in the community change, up or down, as the state slowly reopens. Carmel, along with several other cities across the U.S., as well as The Netherlands, Australia, Italy and New Zealand, is using PCR technology to detect SARS-CoV-2 in fecal matter present in the wastewater.
According to MedPage Today, the viral particles can be detected in waste before the disease manifests in affected individuals.
