To wear a mask or not is one of the hottest questions in connection with protecting yourself and others from coronavirus. But is it safe to the wearer? A retired neurosurgeon says no because if you’re harboring a virus of any sort, a mask won’t allow those exhaled viruses to escape.
Instead, a mask simply concentrates those existing viruses and circulates them within your nasal passages, allowing them possible passage to the brain. Besides, the neurosurgeon says, several studies have shown certain dangers from wearing a mask for an extended length of time, such as “increased airway resistance, accumulation of carbon dioxide, hypoxia or inadequate oxygen supply, headaches and even other life-threatening complications.”
