It turns out people aren’t the only ones going hungry during the coronavirus pandemic. In the U.S., starving rats that feasted on restaurant waste and street garbage before the pandemic shutdown are resorting to cannibalism and eating their own young, as they become more desperate in their search for food.

Starvation has also altered the rats’ behavior, making them more aggressive.
