If you thought you were relatively safe from being spied on by your cellphone, think again. It turns out that a tool your cellphone uses to stabilize images can be used to extract a broad range of information about you from your phone — even with your camera, microphone and GPS turned off.
Accelerometers are sensors that make the digital use of your phone more pleasant and satisfying. But, according to three German scientists, this tool not only can be used to obtain private data such as your age, gender and physical and mental health — just to name a few — but can even reconstruct sequences of text to learn your passwords.
