In an interview with Time, Melinda Gates, co-chair of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, said that distribution of the new COVID-19 vaccine would need to be tiered so health care workers get it first, followed by “black people” and “other people of color” next.
The reason, she said, is because “[Blacks] are having disproportionate effects from COVID-19.” Next on the list would be those with underlying health conditions and older people. Another concern for Gates is that developing countries’ citizens also get early doses of the vaccine. She also criticized the U.S. for withdrawing financial support for WHO in the middle of a pandemic.
