Contrary to initial reports on the infectivity of COVID-19, the World Health Organization now says that asymptomatic carriers of the coronavirus rarely spread it to others.
“From the data we have, it still seems to be rare that an asymptomatic person actually transmits onward to a secondary individual,” Dr. Maria Van Kerkhove, head of the WHO’s emerging diseases and zoonosis unit, said, according to CNBC. “It’s very rare.”
What this means is that the shutdown that destroyed the U.S. economy, killed millions of jobs and closed schools, clinics and businesses may not have been necessary at all — not to mention that the extreme social distancing and mask wearing may not be necessary, either.
