Florida is seeing an “explosion” in COVID-19 cases, especially in younger people, but they are less sick than before, with a fraction of patients on ventilators compared to the number earlier in the year.
Medical professionals attributed the better results to Gilead’s drug, Remdesivir, which is now being given to new COVID-19 patients. The only problem is patients need to take Remdesivir for a full five days, which increases the length of their hospital stay — which could be why the inpatient numbers reported in the news have gone up, health officials said.
