Study: 35% of Excess Deaths During Pandemic Not Related to COVID-19

coronavirus

A close look at the 87,001 excess deaths that occurred from March 1, 2020, to April 25, 2020, shows that 35% were not due to COVID-19 at all. Instead, “people who never had the virus may have died from other causes because of the spillover effects of the pandemic, such as delayed medical care, economic hardship or emotional distress," researchers wrote in JAMA.

Also, diabetes deaths in five of the hardest-hit states — Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania — rose 96% above the expected number of deaths for that time period. Heart disease deaths rose 89%. New York City “alone rose a staggering 398% from heart disease and 356% from diabetes, the study stated.”
