Testing Needed for Existing Drugs That May Fight Off COVID-19

Researchers know that the virus that causes COVID-19 hijacks the proteins in its target cells and are recommending seven existing approved drugs that could disrupt the hijacking process be immediately tested in clinical trials.  The identified drugs — primarily anticancer and inflammatory disease compounds — demonstrated potent antiviral activity in laboratory experiments and have the potential to fight COVID-19, they said.
