Despite Federal Law, Many Insurance Companies Are Not Paying for Coronavirus Testing

coronavirus

The Families First Coronavirus Response Act passed by Congress requires health plans to fully pay for testing deemed "medically necessary," but many insurance companies are balking at paying for testing, with some arguing they can't pay for everyone who's concerned about their risk to get tested.

One-time testing costs approximately $100 per test, but many people have to have repeated tests, such as health care workers and people in long-term care who, in many states, are required to be tested every week and, in New York, twice a week.
