Dr. Anthony Fauci is stepping up the offense on COVID-19 with the suggestion that, for “perfect protection of the mucosal surfaces,” you should wear goggles or a face or eye shield to help prevent spreading or contracting the virus.
He added that since there aren’t any official guidelines on it, you should get tested for COVID-19 within five days of when you believe you’ve been exposed to it, but no earlier than three days after exposure. He also urged everyone to get their flu shots as soon as they become available.
In other news one of the COVID-19 vaccine developers at Baylor College of Medicine, Maria Elena Bottazzi, said there’s no reason to expect that you can ditch social distancing or face masks when a vaccine becomes available. One reason is because the vaccine will not offer 100% protection against infection.
In fact, Moderna’s is showing only 60% at this time. Even if the vaccine reaches 90% effectiveness, people with high-risk health conditions will need to continue wearing masks, Moderna’s CEO Stephanie Bancel said.
