Are you planning to get the COVID-19 vaccine when it comes
out? A majority of Americans are saying no — including Dr. Paul Offit, rotavirus
vaccine inventor and director of the Vaccine Education Center at The Children's
Hospital of Philadelphia.
According to Yahoo! News, in May 55% of Americans said they
would get the vaccine, but a new poll, conducted July 28 to July 30, shows that
number has slipped to 42%. Skepticism on the vaccine’s safety and suspicion
that corners are being cut to rush it to market are some of the reasons people
gave for being hesitant now.
Offit, who is a major proponent for vaccines, said if he’d
been polled, he would have said no, he wasn’t planning to get it yet, either,
and that he was surprised when an earlier poll came out showing that
“two-thirds of the public was willing to get it sight unseen.”
