The U.S. is losing the war with the pandemic because health
departments have seen their budgets slashed to the bare bones, have cut 56,000
jobs and are short on operational essentials and because — let’s face it —
Americans don’t like being told what to do.
Health departments across the U.S. have become bitterly
divided over how to balance public health and private liberty; for example,
should people be ordered to wear masks or close businesses for the greater
good? In the end, many times politics has been chosen over sound science.
