Many news articles talk about infection-control measures
with COVID-19 patients who are hospitalized, but rarely do you see anything
about infection control for those who are infected, but not hospitalized. So,
what do you do to keep family members safe if someone in your house has
COVID-19?
First, the infected person ideally will have a room to
themselves with a private bath. Next, persons at higher risk of contracting
COVID-19 should take care to stay away from the sick person.
In the home and room itself, proper air ventilation is a
plus. Opening windows to move contaminated air outside is good, too, if it’s
feasible to open the windows. If not, keep the sick person’s door closed to
minimize spreading contaminated air throughout the house. Proper hand-washing,
mask-wearing and disposal of waste is important too.
