A biotechnology and nanotechnology expert and the International Center for Technology Assessment (ICTA) have joined a growing number of experts who claim the virus that causes COVID-19 was created in a high-security lab in China.
Giuseppe Tritto, president of the World Academy of Biomedical Sciences and Technologies, is an internationally known expert on genetic engineering, and he is the most recent high-profile figure to conclude that COVID-19 was created in the Wuhan Lab in China. He says the lab acted with support from France and the United States, which helped fund the research.
Other biotechnology experts are coming forward too, including the ICTA, which issued a statement in July 2020 concluding that “COVID-19 did not evolve naturally but rather is the product of one of the high-security bio-medical laboratories in Wuhan, China.”
In the wake of the burgeoning numbers of other scientists who believe COVID-19 was lab-created, Washington Post columnist Josh Rogin is criticizing his NBC TV peers for an investigative report they did on the Wuhan Lab.
“The NBC report says that Fauci ‘discounted the idea that the virus had accidentally escaped from a lab,’ Rogin said in a Tweet. ‘If you read the interview, Fauci said its not important if it was a lab accident (which is wrong) but not that he rules out the possibility.’”
In another Tweet Rogin accused NBC of “laundering” Peter Daszak’s logic, saying, “The actual origin story is critically important scientifically to understanding how the outbreak started and therefore how to fight it and how to prevent the next one. Should we spend our time shutting down wet markets or stopping risky bat research? Get it?”
Note: This blog has been edited to correct the spelling of Rogin’s last name and to clarify the wording of his tweets.
