Across the U.S., wherever restaurants and bars have opened
their doors, a new surge in COVID-19 infections has followed, The New York
Times says.
In some instances, food and beverage service employees said
they felt pressured by their bosses to return to work, with some of that
pressure filtering down from city and state governments eager to recoup lost
revenues the eating establishments provide.
Compounding the problem is that many restaurant and bar
patrons refuse to wear masks or maintain social distancing, the Times says.
