A new study in China has found that the more severe your
case of COVID-19 is, the higher your chances of transmitting it to someone
else. The study used household contact tracing with 3,410 close contacts to
follow up on the number of contacts who later came down with the disease.
Of that number, only 127 were infected; eight of those were
asymptomatic. The study concluded that “household contact was the main setting
for transmission of SARS-CoV-2 and the risk for transmission of SARS-CoV-2
among close contacts increased with the severity of index cases.”
In other words, asymptomatic transmission not only is rare,
but it supports the strategy of only quarantining the sick, as opposed to mass
quarantining everyone.
