Three U.S. senators, including the chairman of the Homeland
Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, are demanding answers from the FDA
on why its policymaking is restricting the use of hydroxychloroquine for use
with COVID-19 patients.
Citing the drug’s decades-long safety record for use with
malaria, lupus and rheumatoid arthritis patients, Sens. Ted Cruz, Mike Lee and
Ron Johnson said the FDA’s actions have “led to misinformation and confusion
across the country,” resulting in physicians being restricted in writing
prescriptions for hydroxychloroquine, and in pharmacists’ filling of the
prescriptions.
