Researchers at the University of Southern California have
come up with a list of COVID-19 symptoms and the likely order in which you’ll
get them. Things to watch out for, in this order, are: fever, cough, muscle
pain, nausea and/or vomiting and diarrhea.
Although the order isn’t set in stone, the researchers said
being aware of them will help determine the proper intervention at the
treatment level, as well as help distinguish them from flu.
“Fever and cough are frequently associated with a variety of
respiratory illnesses, including Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) and
Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS),” the study authors wrote. “But the
timing and symptoms in the upper and lower gastrointestinal tract set COVID-19
apart.
"The upper GI tract (i.e., nausea/vomiting) seems to be
affected before the lower GI tract (i.e., diarrhea) in COVID-19, which is the
opposite from MERS and SARS."
