Chinese researchers found traces of SARS-CoV-2 in an empty
apartment bathroom above a unit occupied by five people who tested positive for
the virus. The sink, faucet and shower handle all had virus on them, even
though the apartment had been vacant for a long time.
In testing various theories as to how the viruses came to be
there, they discovered that aerosol particles of the virus were evident as many
as 12 stories above the infected family’s apartment. They theorized that
particles from the family’s stool had spread through the plumbing.
