Earlier this year, when the coronavirus emerged in
the U.S., public health officials and advocates sounded the alarm for the
homeless, fearing the virus would ravage the homeless population, but that has
not been the case.
Even though shelters did report large outbreaks of
coronavirus, it has not been of the scope that was predicted. With more than 5
million identified cases and 169,000 deaths in the U.S. — researchers are at a
loss as to why there appear to be so few outbreaks among the homeless.
