Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, and face of the coronavirus task force, said he thinks that vaccine makers will adhere to high standards as they test the new vaccine, so much so that an independent board could possibly grant them permission to end their trials early.
“Fauci said people can trust the process, because all the data that outside monitors used to make their decisions would be made public,” CNN reported.
In fact, if the data for safety and efficacy data were so good that the board deemed it safe and effective, “researchers would have a ‘moral obligation’ to end the trial early and make the active vaccine available to everyone in the study, including those who had been given placebos — and accelerate the process to give the vaccine to millions.”
