With none of the COVID-19 vaccines currently in clinical trials showing the 50% efficacy needed for approval, it’s highly unlikely a vaccine will be ready before mid-2021, the World Health Organization says.
The prediction is in sharp contrast to U.S. reports that Pfizer could have a vaccine ready as early as the end of October. Making sure the vaccine is safe is another reason for delaying its release, Margaret Harris, WHO spokesperson, said: “This phase 3 must take longer because we need to see how truly protective the vaccine is and we also need to see how safe it is.”
