Pandemic Learning Can Strain Children’s Eyes

coronavirus

Is your child doing online learning during the pandemic? If so, there are steps you need to take to protect your children’s eyes. First of all, it’s important for your children to spend time playing outdoors, since studies have shown that spending time outside, especially in early childhood, can slow the progression of nearsightedness.

Don't let you child use a device outside or in brightly lit areas and don’t let them use a device in a dark room. Both can cause discomfort and eye strain.

Children should stop using devices 30 to 60 minutes before bedtime since blue light may disrupt sleep. If your teen doesn’t want to do this, have them switch to night mode to reduce blue light exposure. Other preventive steps include setting a timer to remind your child to take a break every 20 minutes and marking books with paperclips every few chapters, which will remind them to look up and away from the book.
