Africa is in the middle of a polio outbreak and the United Nations has admitted that the paralysis-causing disease is being caused by the vaccine itself. The pandemic started in Chad and Sudan.
However, Pakistan, Afghanistan and Iran are also fighting vaccine-caused polio. In 2019 health officials in Ethiopia ordered 57,193 vials of oral polio vaccine destroyed in an incinerator after a similar vaccine-caused outbreak there.
It also happened in India, where a college professor and former adviser to the World Health Organization questioned the continuation of oral polio vaccine when the vaccine caused a similar outbreak there. The professor noted that for the past five years, the vaccine has caused more cases of polio than wild polio itself. He also “pointed out that in nearly 40 countries, governments had long stopped [the oral vaccine] due to the risk of polio associated with it.”
