US Military Fears EMFs May Be Harming Pilots

The Pentagon is taking a closer look at electromagnetic fields (EMFs) in concern that pilots could become disoriented and crash their planes when EMFs flood the cockpits.

“Current cockpits are flooded with radio frequency (RF) noise from on-board emissions, communication links and navigation electronics, including strong electromagnetic (EM) fields from audio headsets and helmet tracking technologies,” research agency DARPA said in a report on the issue.

DARPA used flight information from 1993 to 2013 to conclude that spatial disorientation caused 101 deaths and 72 flight “mishaps” during that time. Forbes noted that previous research has shown that EMFs can disrupt human brains and impact brain waves and behavior. “Equally significant is that the Pentagon is admitting a disturbing possibility: that cockpit radiation may be affecting the mental judgment of pilots so badly that it’s causing them to crash their aircraft,” Forbes said.
